Richard Orton has been musically involved with computers since the early nineteen-eighties. His algorithmic composition language Tabula Vigilans has been used to create music since 1994, and to this day he is working on new music with the system.

In 1998 he brought out a CD (IRUM 1001) of nine works which were created with Tabula Vigilans (TV). These were works dedicated to the York artist Ann Clark, and contained the following works:
