are stored in the computer system and redistributed in time and
space. The software employed is the composer’s own Tabula Vigilans.

Solo Soprano, Solo Trumpet, Medieval Instruments, Organ and
Soundtracks Duration 1 hour
Composed 1984
Commissioned by York Festival 1984 for performance in York
Minster. Subsequent performances in Lincoln Cathedral and Trinity
Cathedral, Cleveland Ohio. The work is based upon the medieval
Mappa Mundi, housed in Hereford Cathedral. As Richard of
Haldingham attempted an imaginative mapping of all of 13th Century
known space, so Timescape attempts an imaginary mapping of all of
time, beginning (and ending) in eternity.
Performance materials include score and parts for the live musicians,
and soundtracks on CDs. Multiple loudspeaker arrangements, widely
separated in the performance space, are necessary.
